Heads-up display for specialist divers
This research project explored a helmet-mounted heads-up display for divers working around unexploded munitions, commonly dating from the Second World War. Chemicals leaching from the munitions can create hazardous concentrations of toxins in the surrounding water.
Sensors monitored the water in real time, while the display gave the diver a simple warning when readings exceeded predetermined safety thresholds. The work translated complex environmental sensor data into an immediate, easily understood alert suitable for a demanding underwater environment.
