Manta
Immersive VR motion platform
Manta was commissioned as an immersive VR diving experience intended for deployment across multiple venues in Dubai and the wider Middle East. I designed the complete Manta unit around an off-the-shelf motion platform, including the user-support structure and the near-zero-resistance, multi-axis mounting system for its two-handed controllers.
Custom software coordinated the platform’s movement with the visual experience presented through an HTC Vive headset and the user’s controller inputs. This brought the physical product, body movement, platform motion and virtual environment together as one integrated experience.
The product was engineered for repeat production in batches of six to support the planned multi-venue rollout. Although only one complete unit was ultimately built, the design and development work addressed the requirements of repeat manufacture and commercial deployment.
